Take care of MY People!

** One of my favorite talks is about ministering to the people who are in front of you. It may be the store clerk, a waitress/waiter, or someone on the street. I believe when we encounter people they should know we are Christians by the way we greet them. So the story below was just after I retired and had this look of what do I do now.. This incident below hit me really hard – sometimes God puts people right in front of us and we have a choice on how we respond. Do we take care of His people or just keep on walking and do nothing… **

I was doing one of my Wilderness walks today and my prayers have been about what am I going to do since I have just retired.   As one of my previous blogs stated – one of my wilderness walks is to go on the Greenway, it is just at the end of my street.      I had some great visits with my Advisory Pastors this week but nothing is sinking in yet.
Just as I am starting my walk I look down the Greenway a little bit and there is this young man sitting on his duffle bag.   As I get closer he has his face in his hands and I thought he was just resting.  He looked up so I asked him how he was doing – isn’t that what you are supposed to do?   His response was “Oh just living out of my bag” > OH… now what am I supposed to do?   We had a brief talk and some pleasantries were passed, and as I am walking away I say “God Bless You”.    You have to understand that this is not normal for me – but it felt like I should say it.  He had this big smile and said back to me “God Bless you also”.
I then proceeded to get back to the my Wilderness walk on the Greenway and I was not more than 30 feet past this young Man and God started his talk with me>>>>.   He told me that I had been praying about what I am going to do in retirement and I just walked by what he wanted me to do……….   “Take care of My People”    So I turned around and went back to this young man and told him:   “I said God Bless you but I failed to bless you”.   So I handed him some money (I cannot tell you how much but I wanted to bless him) and then I told him to go have lunch…    Now his response is what really did it for me….  He stated:  “It is all about Jesus and thank you” –   this is one of those WOW moments and he must have been sitting there praying when I walked up the first time.

So there was my answer to what I am supposed to do in retirement:  “Take care of God’s People”.  I do not know what that looks like as I go forward, but I do know that I cannot miss those opportunities again.   As I walked away I told him I knew the battle was hard that he was going through and I wished him good luck.
We as Christians are in a battle at the present time – and there are even a few Christians who are homeless living out of their bags.    I must be looking for those opportunities to help God’s people in need and I am excited to see what that looks like as I walk with Jesus in this new season of life.

**Diane and I shared a song on Face Book recently that was about those times that God does not seem to be taking care of our problems at the present time – but I am still going to Trust in Him as I go forward…     I believe that this song was this young man’s life…    Please enjoy listening to it…  (It is a very powerful song)
Lauren Daigle – Trust In You:

So Please look for those opportunities God put’s in front of you help His People.

You just might be the answer to someone’s Prayer……….

And who knows – you just might be helping an Angel.

If you walk by – get ready for those talks from God – then turn around.

YOU WILL BE BLESSED!

A New Season of Life:

I am now officially retired from the US Postal Service and now it is time for my Next Season of Life.    I am reminded me of a Scripture I used a while back:

Deuteronomy 2:  2&3 > Then the Lord said to me, you have made your way around this hill country long enough; now turn north.

So it is my time to turn north and I have this big question.   What does that Look Like????     I am really excited to see the new opportunities that He will be putting before me for some new ways to minister.   Everyone has been asking me what are you going to do? And are you going to be busy? And are you going back to work?    Great questions…
First of all –  I am not planning on going back to work, I do not want to be tied down to a specific job and not be able to be flexible in the direction God is going to take me.  My wife and I are looking forward to this new season and she will be following me shortly – we want to be able to serve Him in a whole new way.

So it has brought me down to this verse:

Proverbs 3:5 > 5.  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  6.  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

So I know as I go forward in this new season of life – I will have to trust in the Lord to make my path straight.   As I stated before, I am excited to see where He takes me.

These verses from Ecclesiastes explains seasons:

Ecclesiastes 3:1-22 >   For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; …

As you see there is a season for everything and as I go down this new path I have to be ready.    Who knows it might be time to through a stone or two…     I do have some new opportunities opening up for me and also a few plans to enjoy my Grandkids…   so the future looks good…   AMEN

So what season of life are you in?

Is it time for you to turn north?

Your season does not have to be a retirement one – Christ will use you in the Season you are in right now!

To the Wilderness and Pray:

This weekend I was waiting for my Son to come to our Home so I had some spare time to ponder (Yes it happens sometimes that I Ponder) – he is redoing the Tile in his Mother’s bathroom (You do see that it is his Mother’s Bathroom     LOL).   In that spare time I realized it had been a while since I took a walk to Pray, so I took about 30 minutes and did a walk on the Greenway to pray.                               In the job I had about 18 months ago for the Post Office – I would travel allot throughout Wyoming.  During those times I would have some great opportunities while I was driving to just talk with Jesus – I could go to Jackson and have an Awesome conversation.
I miss those times and realized that I have been neglecting my Wilderness time to Pray.
Praying in the          In the sermon today Pastor Shaun talked about Jesus getting away from the crowds so he could have time to talk with God and we need that time also.

Luke 5:15 & 16 – But the news about Him was spreading even farther, and large crowds were gathering to hear Him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.

I believe we have to build in a Wilderness time into our lives.   We need to get away from the craziness of life and have some quality quiet time with Jesus.  I have created some different ways for myself in trying to build in that Wilderness time and it can look different to all of us.   Here is a shortened list of what mine may look like.

  1.  A walk on the Greenway – Lions Park – or around the Neighborhood.
  2. A quick trip to Pole Mountain for a short hike.
  3. A drive around town.
  4. My War Room at home.

**I really do need to work on this more – I have been neglecting this recently and I should have at least four Wilderness experiences a Month.

Here are a couple of other scriptures of Jesus getting in his Wilderness Time:

  1. Matthew 14:23 > After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone.

  2. Mark 1:35 > In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.

As you can see:  Jesus seen it as essential to get away into the Wilderness to Pray – so this is something that we should see as an essential part of our lives.

Do you have Wilderness time scheduled?

What does it look like to you?

Remember that this is a time to get away from the Craziness of Life and reconnect with Jesus.  Find time to do it!!!

Who is going to be the next President?

Great question…..     My wife enjoys watching the presidential debates – so I try to enjoy them with her – all I can say is “Holy Cow”.   There are so many candidates to pick from and it is hard to come up with who would be the best one.   I do believe that it is very important to Vote and to vote knowing about the person you cast your vote for.   So it does take time to do that.
I am very careful on where I get my information from:  Several years ago I would listen to the Radio Talk hosts, but my fourth son (Steve N.) had a great observation on when you do that.   When you listen to them – you seem to take on their personality of how they look at the opponents and then you become just as negative and angry as they do.  So no more talk host for me – I got caught up in that and it is not a good place to be.
**Most of the candidates have Web Sites and that is probably the most informational area you can go to for research on them in a non-bias way.
I have been having some great conversations with my second son (Mike G) about the president and he keeps me grounded.   His comment has been that God is going to use whoever the current president is to accomplish His Will.   This weekend he reminded me of what the Bible says about our leaders from Romans.

Romans 13: 1>5 –    Every person must obey the leaders of the land. There is no power given but from God, and all leaders are allowed by God.     The person who does not obey the leaders of the land is working against what God has done. Anyone who does that will be punished.   Those who do right do not have to be afraid of the leaders. Those who do wrong are afraid of them. Do you want to be free from fear of them? Then do what is right. You will be respected instead.    Leaders are God’s servants to help you. If you do wrong, you should be afraid. They have the power to punish you. They work for God. They do what God wants done to those who do wrong.  You must obey the leaders of the land, not only to keep from God’s anger, but so your own heart will have peace.

So I have really evolved from my days of being extremely political to accepting who God has as our Leader.    The one thing that I must remember is that I should be praying for all of our Leaders that God will be working through.   I know that there will always be Leaders who will go against my beliefs, but they still need my prayers.  I have learned that those leaders are the ones that seem to make me more grounded in my faith – so I must thank them for that.
So as you go forward in 2016 and get ready for the Election Process please keep in mind to:

Do your research on who you will be voting for.

Always be praying for our leaders.

Remember God is in Control and will use our leaders for his Good.

Holy Spirit Powered:

Pastor Shaun was in the 4th chapter of Luke this week and there was a part about a Demon possessed man interrupting Jesus as he was teaching.

Luke 4: 33-35:  33.   A man in the Jewish place of worship had a demon. He cried with a loud voice,   34.   “What do You want of us, Jesus of Nazareth? I know Who You are. You are the Holy One of God.”  35. Jesus spoke sharp words to the demon and said, “Do not talk! Come out of him!” When the demon had thrown the man down, he came out without hurting the man.

I have a study Bible and I really enjoyed the section about verse 33:  “It is naïve to think that we will be sheltered from evil in the church.  Satan is happy to invade our presence wherever and whenever he can.  But Jesus authority is much greater than Satan’s: and where Jesus is present, demons cannot stay for long.”

This scripture had me looking all around to see where the Enemy may be at the present time in my life.  I do have to say that when I looked around in my Church – I could not identify him there trying to miss guide me.  But as I look around at the people in my daily life – I can tell you that a few of them must be Demon Possessed.   There are a couple of people that really stretch me in my Christian Walk and they try to get me to slip up.   They do accomplish this at times, but I know there is power in me that can bring me back.  This verse really helps:

1 John 4:  My children, you are a part of God’s family. You have stood against these false preachers and had power over them. You had power over them because the One Who lives in you is stronger than the one who is in the world.

**It is great to know that no Demon can possess me because of the Power that is in me (The Holy Spirit) and it is greater than anything the Enemy can throw my way.
I really have to smile when I do identify the people in my life who are able to get me to stumble and then I look to see if they are really Demon Possessed.   I cannot verify if they really are, but I do know that I have to take better control of my situations when I allow myself to be shaken because of them.  (There are a couple at work that I believe must be Demon Possessed).

The Church is going to show the movie “War Room” this Friday and it has a powerful message on how to Battle the Enemy.   If you have not seen it yet – please watch it and create yourself a “War Room”.

Now:          Do you have any of those people in your life that may be Demon Possessed?

Do they get you to stumble?

Are you utilizing the Power that is within you to overcome those circumstances that throw you off your walk with Jesus?

Remember you have the Power that lives in you that is stronger than anything the Enemy can throw at you!Holy Spirit power

What does Jesus look like to you?

Pastor Shaun finished his sermon yesterday with this Question:   “How do you respond when Jesus does not meet your expectations or match your preconceived ideas?”     Great question….      When Jesus came to earth to be with us – most people were expecting a Great and Powerful King.  They had in their minds of what Jesus would be and what they expected.   They eventually killed Jesus not knowing that he was their Great and Powerful King.
So how do you answer this question?     Ilooked up the definition of expectations and here is what I came up with:

  • a belief that something will happen or is likely to happen.
  • a feeling or belief about how successful, good, etc., someone or something will be.

So just ponder on this for a moment and come up with your answer.  I would give you mine, but it seems to change as my relationship with Jesus becomes stronger.
**I did the same with Preconceived Ideas and here is the meaning on it:

  • an opinion formed beforehand without adequate evidence; “he did not even try to confirm his preconceptions”

Have you also done this with Jesus????????????

My good friend Mike P. and I were talking the other day about how we were handling some of our problems and do people still see Jesus in us.  I have to tell you it looks allot different for this seasoned person then it did 10 years ago.  Mike and I finally came up with a final thought of:   Why did it take us so long to start doing it more like Jesus.   As we get Older we seem to become more wiser – I just wish that wisdom would have come 25 years ago.
We all seem to fall into that trap of how we perceive the right way to handle our problems instead of seeking out the answer of how would Jesus of handled it.  I do have to tell you that I still blow it allot when handling certain issues in my life – especially at work.   I seem to fail miserably when it comes to that portion of my life, but I am in luck – I only have one more month.  As I was saying – why did it take me so long to understand the will of Christ – I have allot more to learn as I go forward with my relationship with him.

So I have changed that question to:   What are Jesus expectations and preconceived ideas of what I should be?  Am I measuring up to what he wants from me and am I allowing him to work through me?   Hmmmmmmmmm….

So what are your expectations of Jesus?

What are your preconceived ideas of Jesus?

Are you seeking his understanding before your own?

It will be a life time adventure of getting to know the Real Jesus but enjoy it as you are transformed into being more like him!

Who are My Friends?

I enjoyed a short trip last week at work to re-coop some mail and enjoyed some great quiet time.  I used to travel allot for work a couple of years ago, but I have changed jobs and now my travels are minimal – I really miss those moments of quiet time.   So on this trip I was able to enjoy some music and one of the songs had me thinking about who I surround myself with.   Who are my Friends??????
The song and lyrics are below:   enjoy and then I will share my thoughts:

 “Jesus, Friend Of Sinners”

Casting Crowns

Jesus, friend of sinners, we have strayed so far away
We cut down people in your name but the sword was never ours to swing
Jesus, friend of sinners, the truth’s become so hard to see
The world is on their way to You but they’re tripping over me
Always looking around but never looking up I’m so double minded
A plank eyed saint with dirty hands and a heart divided

Oh Jesus, friend of sinners
Open our eyes to the world at the end of our pointing fingers
Let our hearts be led by mercy
Help us reach with open hearts and open doors
Oh Jesus, friend of sinners, break our hearts for what breaks yours

Yeah…

Jesus, friend of sinners, the one who’s writing in the sand
Made the righteous turn away and the stones fall from their hands
Help us to remember we are all the least of these
Let the memory of Your mercy bring Your people to their knees
Nobody knows what we’re for only what we’re against when we judge the wounded
What if we put down our signs crossed over the lines and loved like You did

Oh Jesus, friend of sinners
Open our eyes to world at the end of our pointing fingers
Let our hearts be led by mercy
Help us reach with open hearts and open doors
Oh Jesus, friend of sinners, break our hearts for what breaks yours

You love every lost cause; you reach for the outcast
For the leper and the lame; they’re the reason that You came
Lord I was that lost cause and I was the outcast
But you died for sinners just like me, a grateful leper at Your feet

‘Cause You are good, You are good and Your love endures forever
You are good, You are good and Your love endures forever
You are good, You are good and Your love endures forever
You are good, You are good and Your love endures forever

Oh Jesus, friend of sinners
Open our eyes to world at the end of our pointing fingers
Let our hearts be led by mercy
Help us reach with open hearts and open doors
Oh Jesus, friend of sinners, break our hearts for what breaks Yours

And I was the lost cause and I was the outcast
Yeah…
You died for sinners just like me, a grateful leper at Your feet

So as I look around at my friends what do I see – I see that I have protected myself well with some great and powerful friends who walk beside me.  But what I do not see is an opportunity to be a witness as Jesus would have.  I know that we have to be extremely careful when we are in the world and not be distracted by the enemy.   These verses in John helped.

John 17:14-18 > 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.

So I have been challenged to be that witness that I should be – and that does not mean that I drop my friends.   Just the opposite – WE have to look for those opportunities to be a friend to all who need Jesus.    It will take me out of my comfort zone and put me in situations where I will need help – that is why I have friends to walk beside me.  The story of Jonathan and the armor bearer is a great example of that – and the battle that needs to be fought today.  So as I get close to retirement I am going to have allot more time to put this into action.   The song above did state that I can be a hindrance and cause people to stumble over me on their way to Jesus.  So I do need to look at my Heart as I go forward and examine it on a daily basis to make sure it is in line with Jesus.    I do look at being friends with sinners in a whole new way – my prayer is that I can..

 So who are your Friends?

Do you have ones to walk along side of you as you go into the World?

Are you being Friends to the Sinners who need Jesus?

Bobbyg
PS:   To those who call me their friend and I call them mine – be ready for the adventure that is to come….  THANKS

Joy…………..

Have you ever had one of those weeks that everything goes wrong and when people look at you they see it.   Well I have been told by several people that I had one of those weeks…  I hate it when it shows that much and I let it seep out to those around me…   Just WRONG—-
My co-worker (Al) gave me a coffee cup for Christmas and it has in bold letters on two sides – “JOY”.   He pointed at it this week and reminded me of what it meant and why he gave it to me – I am not to let anyone steal my Joy.  He was so right – I was letting the circumstances of life steal my Joy.   There is only one person that can allow Joy to be taken from me and that is ME>>>
I looked up a couple of references on the topic of Joy and this is what inspired me once again to make sure that those around me see the Joy in me.

What is Joy?    The goal of every Christian should not be happiness because the Bible never promises happiness to the believer but joy, which is a totally different story.  While happiness is temporary and is based upon happenings, joy is from the Lord and you can still experience joy during trials, suffering, and testingJoy is permanent but happiness is fleeting

Nehemiah 8:10 – Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

After having an extremely bad day this week, I had to sit down with my Boss and talk about what I was experiencing.   I brought my Joy cup to the meeting – can you see where this is going.   I explained to my Boss about the cup and explained that I cannot let people still my joy and that included the people I encounter at work.  It worked – my Joy came back and I finished the week WELL.  The Joy of the Lord is my Strength and I have to remember that whatever I am going through – my focus needs to be on Him.
I do have to share one thing:   When you tell someone that you are not going to let them steal your Joy, it changes how they treat you.  “AMAZING”   –   I have done that a couple of times now and the Joy from the Lord is passed on to them.

So how is your week going – have you lost your Joy?

Is your strength coming from “The Joy of the Lord”?

Let those around you that seem to steal your Joy know that they cannot have it!!!

"Relentless Pursuit"

What is “Relentless Pursuit”?   This is a great question and it is going to be answered by our Next GMM Men’s Conference.   This is our theme for 2016 and I have been thinking about what this means to me.  First of all I had to do some research on the meaning of each of these words.  When I did a Google search – these were the meanings that I was looking for:

  • Relentless:  persistent, continuing, constant, continual, continuous, nonstop, never-ending, unabating, interminable, incessant, unceasing, endless, unending, unremitting, unrelenting, unrelieved.
  • Pursuit:  striving toward, quest after/for, search for.

Then a good Pastor Friend (Pastor Stephen) had explained some meaning behind this phrase also:

  • Finishing Well
  • Called to be Influencers
  • Warriors for Christ
  • Character
  • Mission from GOD

**These are great!!
I am retiring in the next few months, so I am really focused on what my next season of life is going to look like.   I like the phrase “Finishing Well” and I want to be able to say that I have.    The other phrases are just as powerful and they will be a major part of my life as I go into that Retirement stage.   Several years ago as I got closer to retirement – my thoughts were that  I would do the same in my ministries.  I was going to be one of those retired Christians who had did his part and needed to let the younger generation take over.
I was wrong…………..   There is no such thing as a Retired Christian and I am just getting started.   I am looking forward to being able to expand my ministry opportunities and seeing where Christ is going to take me.   So my focus will be:

I will Finish Well – I am called to be an Influencer – I will be a Warrior for Christ – I will build my Character – God has a Mission for me…

So what does “Relentless Pursuit” mean to you?

What does it look like to you?

Make 2016 a new year of being passionate about how Christ is going to utilize you>>>>>

Do you BELIEVE?

What a great question to ask myself – “Do I Believe”?   My wife brought home this movie “Do you BELIEVE?” and she really needs to quit doing that.  I being one of those seasoned guys who grew up with the instructions that real men do not CRY – this movie really ruined it for me….  I lost allot of guy points because of it…
This question was asked of a Pastor at the start of the Movie and it rocked him to his soul after watching what the guy did who asked the question.  Then it prompted him to do a sermon and challenge his congregation – it impacted several of them.   One of the major parts of the question was putting our beliefs to action and in the end it brought several different people together because of their actions.   But the one that really hit me, was the paramedic that shared his faith to a man who was dying and lost allot because of it.
When he went to court – his most impactful comment that I grasped was… If I am going to court because I am a Christian – I HOPE TO BE FOUND GUILTY.    So I really had to think about this one – if I had to go to court to see if I am a Christian, would I be found guilty…  Would my actions be able to convict me????   A WOW question.   At one point the paramedic had to save the Lawyer who ruined his career and she asked him why he saved her…  He stated:  that in the Bible it says to “Love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us”.   (Could I do this?)
Matthew 5:44   But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

Also this week I finished a book from D.I. Telbat – “Called to Gobi” (a fictional book about end times, but a really enjoyable read) – A young man was sent to prison and was saved there.   He studied with a Mentor and decided to go too Mongolia to tell people about Jesus.
This was one more of those insights that hit me to the core of my soul:   This man had to trust in God to get him through some really tough times and push his faith to the limit.   He did struggle at times, but in the end he persevered and people came to know Jesus.  It was exciting to read about people who begged to hear more about Jesus.   So once again – are my actions getting people excited about hearing more of Jesus?

As I am just a couple of months from retirement – a new season in life is coming.  I am having these thoughts about what am I going to do….  what will my actions look like in retirement..     I may need some help with this one…

One of the songs at the end of the movie is a favorite of mine.
“We Believe” by the Newsboys…     Enjoy – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjZ01FcK0yk
So now here is the challenge:

If you were convicted of being a Christian and had to go to Court.  Would you be found Guilty?

Do you BELIEVE?  And do your Actions show it?

What do you BELIEVE in and who are you impacting?

 Bobbyg
You will have to watch the movie and read the book to get more of an impact as I did…………….
